Plus the impact of banning screen time
Hi there, everyone! If there are two things we love in this world it’s 1) each other wait, we meant to say our kids and husbands and 2) seeing all of you for a wild night out. Check out tour dates and come make it a night we definitely won’t tell our kids about. 🤐
How to Talk to Your Kids About What’s Happening in Maui
Source: Los Angeles Times
Our hearts are with the people of Hawaii. ❤️🩹 Devastating fires have destroyed much of Maui and taken nearly 100 lives so far. It’s so sad, and our kids are likely to pick up on it. So how do you talk to your kids about horrible news like this? 1) Get informed yourself—here’s what you need to know, and 2) read up on the importance of listening, sharing, and telling the truth. We also have this super informative episode about anxiety in uncertain times with Jake Ernst from Straight Up Health if you wanna give it a listen!
Tell Your Teen They Don’t Have Wrinkles
Today in WTF: Teens are now obsessed with *checks notes* anti-aging. Thanks to a whole slew of factors (read: TikTok), young people have started to share their anti-aging skincare regimens as early as 14 years old—and Gen Z spends more on skincare than any other generation.
What does that mean for parents? Maybe hold off on the “my crows feet are awful today” talk before breakfast. Our teens are sponges, and embracing natural aging sets a far more positive example than complaining about looking our ages in front of highly impressionable, probably already self-conscious kids.
Who Does Banning Screen Time Really Impact?
Okay, y’all. We have to know. Is banning YouTube or other streamers as a punishment for bad behavior more of a pain in the a*s for your kids or for you? We read this mom’s account of taking away YouTube after noticing all the awful things her kids had picked up from all that scrolling and binge watching. And—unsurprisingly—it’s been tougher on her than on them.
So…tell us what you think. Who does withholding YouTube or screen time impact most?Click one to cast your vote ➡️ |
So the Dad Jokes Are Actually…a Good Thing?
Huge news for funny parents whose kids say they’re not funny: Keeping things light and silly (when the time is right, of course) can have enormous benefits for our kids and families. Parenting experts agree that kids exposed to humor at home are more likely to…
Laugh at themselves
Avoid taking life too seriously
Make friends more easily
Which are all good things. So next time your teen says your “that’s what she said” joke was lame, remember that you’re actually doing them a favor.

We’re all doing this for the first time. We know it can feel so overwhelming to think about how you’re raising your kids—you want the best for them, and that comes with some self-induced pressure!
But here’s your regularly scheduled reminder that you’re doing your best at something you’re only doing for the first time. Pets are great, but they’re not a dress rehearsal for raising kids. Nothing compares to it!
So pat yourself on the back for trying to get better every day, and remember that your kids will thank you someday for trying your hardest to show up your best. Oh, and maybe give your parents a call?
See you next week 💋
